Your espresso dial-in companion

Dialing in means finding the perfect grind setting for your beans and machine. It usually takes 3–5 shots to get right — but once you're there, every coffee will taste great.

What you'll need

⚖️
Digital scale Ideally one that reads to 0.1g
🔧
Adjustable grinder Burr grinder with fine control
Fresh beans At least 50–100g to dial in with
⏱️
Timer Or just use the one in this app
😊
A bit of patience Dialing in is a process!

How it works

1

Lock your dose

You'll weigh the same amount of coffee every time. This stays fixed.

2

Adjust your grind

Pull a shot, check the time. Too fast? Grind finer. Too slow? Grind coarser. Repeat until you hit the target window.

3

Fine-tune by taste

Once timing is right, taste will tell you if you need small tweaks to yield.

This is one of several ways to dial in espresso — a reliable method for beginners. Remember: a great-tasting shot is always the goal. Use these guidelines as a starting point, not strict rules.
